The December 9 promotion was a great end to a great year here at Alliance NYC! The hard work put in by the students and instructors paid off with one of the biggest promotions to date. “Dreamy” Lou Levy, Mike “Meow” Maio, Mateo Maldonado aka pnut aka corn nut and David “The Butterfly” Bass were promoted to brown belt. Dave “CoCo” Diaz, “Handsome” Sam Saffman, Adonis “DNA” Vasquez, Mike “The knight” White, Zata “Zerm” Toscano moved to purple belt. Keith “GingerRED” Dowd, Callie “Steamin” Freeman, Vedha “Verm” Toscano and Adam “Yet to have a nickname” Elzer. Many stripes were also given away. The energy in the gym was great and by the time the tunnel finished and the chants started the feeling of team unity was strong. It was great to have to all of you there!

Congratulations to Matthew Maldonado who went to California and competed in the 2011 No-Gi World Jiu-Jitsu Championships. He took 2nd place in his weight class in a very controversial final match, losing to his opponent by 1 advantage. He than entered the absolute division, beat the rooster weight champion and then lost to the silver medalist of the ultra heavy weight division. He had a great showing and we are all proud of him at Alliance NYC.

Professor Fabio Clemente has just returned from Atlanta. He finished the phase 2 course at the Alliance headquarters with Master Jacare and Fabio Gurgel. Fabio said the trip went very well, he very much enjoyed getting to see the other Alliance instructors and getting to discuss new and exciting ways to advance the already #1 Alliance association. Now he is very excited to start implementing new improvements that will make nearly everything better here at Alliance NY. This will include adding new class and adding new times for existing classes, a vastly updated website, new merchandise available and much more. We have big plans here at Alliance NYC and hope to continue to do our best to make ourselves the best BJJ school in New York.
